Future Plans
Tomorrow is the 1st of April, and almost one quarter of this year has passed. Time flew very quickly for me -maybe because was working so hard to finish Supernova 2 (the final game should be ready very soon) and also pondering what to do after it.
I have still a project on stand-by - Tower of Destiny. However I’m thinking also about learning Flash/Director to make a online game. I have what I think to be a pretty cool idea that all Magic Stones fans will surely like, a sort of online rpg card game. The advantages of a online-only game are lots, for example multiplayer possibility, no need to store the data on your pc, possibility to play the game anywhere (even at work! eheh) and also the micropayment thing, so that you can pay only for how much you play the game (have still to decide the details, but this would allow much more flexibility on payment methods).
However I’m not saying that TOD will become waporware: I’ll resume working on it at same time as the online game. Just don’t ask me release dates, because I really have no clue, it’s going to be a very BIG game ![]()

Game Producer: And We Have a Winner
We have a winner for the .

The idea of the contest was to guess what toy I got from an easter egg. There were plenty of well though answers such as these witty guesses:
“one of those gooey hands that you can sling against walls and such” (Code_wizard)
Heh, that’s exactly what I call them
“small deck of cards” (ElementCy)
Heh, inside easter egg? Oh well, I guess there are small cards out there :)
“did the egg was empty?” (eco)
Good one, but unfortunately wrong.
The TOY refers to
The 3D Game created from FPS
[after exporting it from FPS]and EGG refers to
FPS Creator
This time nickname lostin3d got bit too philosophic here…
“pokemon plush doll (because you obviously are a fan of dem, wakokokokokokokok) (celeron)”
Fine guess, but unfortunately wrong ;)
There’s more fun guesses, and I recommend you guys go take a look at them in the .
The right answer was pirate. It was a 50g Peter Pan easter egg (tasted yammy) and there was a pirate inside it. micjwelch guessed right first, and got a boxed copy of FPS Creator X10. The rest of you gotta go to website and buy it from there.
Thanks everybody for your participation.

Game Producer: Mahjonged Review
bought a . Mahjonged.com is a Mahjong website where you can also . In this review I go through some changes that the site could consider in order to generate more ad income. These tips can be applied by any gaming site that intends to generate ad revenue.
Changing ad types & placement of ads
The first page for Mahjonged.com looks pretty fine. What comes to generating more income, I’d suggest that the site could have:
- Smaller top banner with less striking buttons (and perhaps even with lesser buttons)
- The flags could be smaller and locate in top right corner, instead of stealing attention in key area
- Instead of the header “play free Mahjong games” there could be two 336×280 ad banners (in this case the skyscraper ad in the left might need to go). Currently the vertical banner under headerlink might work pretty well, so it should be re-located in case 2 new banners are taken.
- Currently the ads blend quite well with rest of the site, but using blue links should not be underestimated. Blue links catch more clicks.
- The top right info about “bookmark this site” and a brief description text could be removed or moved on top of the site. Instead, this part of the site could have “newsletter” subscription option, or simply left blank.
- Sub-pages (such as ) there could ad banners similarly as in the front page.
- News page was empty, I’d take it away.
- Game pages (such as ) could have big CPM banners before the actual game. Currently they are ad-free.
- Text pages (such as ) could have couple of text banner ads blended in.
I would estimate that by merely making some quick changes (such as the newsletter option, placing additional ads on different pages) this site can increase the number of clicks which lead to increased ad revenue. The placement & colors of different ads are important, and spending a bit of time optimizing the ads can lead to quite big changes in income when traffic to the site is good.

Casual Gamer Chick: PopCap Hires Marketing VP
PopCap Games has hired Ben Rotholtz as the VP of marketing. VP of marketing was a newly created position and Mr. Rotholtz did not replace anybody. Mr. Rotholtz will be in charge of all of the marketing facets PopCap Games has in place, such as the Web site, advertising, public relations, marketing and promotional efforts.
“Building a marketing team at PopCap is one of those dream opportunities that come along once in a lifetime, if that,” stated Rotholtz. “This is a highly creative and gifted company with superb, quality products that have succeeded thus far on word-of-mouth and non-stop positive critiques from the media. The challenge of raising the profile of PopCap and its games worldwide is truly inspiring and energizing – I can’t wait to get started!”

Sim City 4
Oh yeah, and this weekend we all played Sim City 4. I think I probably played for four hours straight at one point. Sim City 4 is the DEVIL! It's a good thing it's not on my laptop (yet!) else I'd get fired shortly.
