A fun diversive: Summer Session

I’ve recently published a game made in collaboration with Hanako Games, called “Summer Session”. It is quite different from my “usual” games, but I was always open-minded and willing to experiment, so when I found a very good manga artist (Rebecca Gunter) and a great writer (the girl who runs Hanako website), I decided to give it a try. It is of the genre of “dating sim”, a sort of adventure game in which you have to try to date out other girls, everything presented in a fun way.

When I played the first alpha, I was already excited because the game was exactly has I had in mind: a fun, relaxing game, with multiple endings so that you could replay it several times, and a small “simulation” part in it (when you have to decide your weekly schedule).

You can download the game for Mac and Pc (a Linux version is also available and will put online soon) in the adventure games section of my site Tycoon Games. Below a few screenshots of the game itself:

GBGames: Understanding Video Games

I went to the comic book store the other day and bought Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art by Scott McCloud. I’ve seen this book referenced in video game articles before, and the idea of a comic book that explains the medium of comic books sounded great. I was on IRC when I said it would [...]

Casual Gamer Chick: PopCap Releases Amazing Adventures Around the World

PopCap has announced the release of Amazing Adventures Around the World a hidden object game for the PC. Players travel around the world looking for the World Diamond. Amazing Adventures Around the World is a sequel to the hit game Amazing Adventures The Lost Tomb. Amazing Adventure Around the World

Players have the chance to travel around the world, virtually of course, looking for pieces of the ancient stone tablet. The tablet will lead players to the location of the World Diamond, which is the ultimate goal.

Amazing Adventures Around the World is a huge game with 100 different levels and 25 different locations. Th game does not just contain seek and find levels, though, there are puzzle traps and mini-games to keep players occupied.

Sounds like an intense hidden object game. Amazing Adventures Around the World has the potential to contain great graphics of places around the world. Hidden object games, usually, contain great graphics and this game should be no different. If you like hidden object games, this game is probably worth checking out.

Amazing Adventures Around the World is available PopCap or SpinTop Games for $19.95. The game will make it’s way to major game portals later in the year.

Press Release Follows:

Vancouver, British Columbia – July 17, 2007 – SpinTop™ Games, a division of leading casual game developer and publisher PopCap Games, today announced the immediate availability of Amazing Adventures Around the World ™, a new “hidden object” puzzle game with an adventure that spans the globe. Amazing Adventures Around the World is the second game in the series, following last year’s hit title Amazing Adventures The Lost Tomb™, which has already been downloaded nearly 20 million times since launching late last year. Amazing Adventures Around the World takes players on a globe-trotting “seek and find” journey in search of the world’s most valuable gem, the “World Diamond.” The new game carries a retail price of US$19.95, and a free trial of the PC game is available now for download at www.popcap.com and www.spintop-games.com. The game will also be available on other leading game portals, including RealArcade.com, MSN Games and Yahoo! Games, and will be available worldwide in eight languages, in September.

“There’s no limit to where you can transport players in an adventure game, so we wanted this game to take players to the four corners of the world to view amazing places that few of us ever get to visit in person,” stated Duncan Magee, co-director and co-founder of SpinTop. “Exploring exotic locations like the Great Wall of China, the Great Barrier Reef, the African Serengeti, the Amazon and many more has never been easier or more fun.”

In Amazing Adventures Around the World, you play an adventure seeker hired by the Museum to track down pieces of an ancient stone tablet that, when pieced together, unearth the location of the “World Diamond.” Play over 100 levels and travel to 25 exotic locations which provide the hiding places of more than 2,100 cleverly concealed items.  Unique puzzle traps and eight different kinds of mini-games add to the adventure and challenge available in three different game modes – Story Mode plus two unlockable “unlimited play” modes.

Key features of Amazing Adventures Around the World include:
·         Seek and find over 2,100 cleverly hidden objects.
·         Investigate 25 exotic scenes featuring beautifully rendered artwork and themed music and sound effects.
·         Play 8 unique mini-games including Spot-The-Differences, Word Search, Tile Rotation, Jigsaw and more!

·         Unlock interesting facts in your journal as you travel the globe.
·         Play against the clock or in Relaxed Mode with no time limits.

Bret on Social Gaming: Looking to hire? Fantastic Game Industry Salary Data

I know a lot of social games people come from the web world, now you can see how the other half lives.

Christer Ericson compiled a very thorough table of game programmer salaries by datamining the H-1B tax database. Additionally, he covered other data sources as well. Amazingly valuable.

Aurora Feint Review

Normally I am not into puzzle games. Sure I enjoy playing Tetris but thats as far as I will go when it comes to puzzle games. Recently while browsing through the App Store I came across a free game called Aurora Feint and decided to give it a go, and boy was that a good decision.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="256" caption="Get three colors in a row to destroy them."]The game looks stunning[/caption]

Aruroa Feint can be described as a Puzzle RPG. Instead of fighting off random enemies to level up you have to finish off puzzle levels, all of which are the same by the way. The object of the game, and like many puzzle games, is to get three colors in a row. You use the swipe controls to move the blocks back and forth, which makes it easy for anyone to pick up and play.

The best part about the gameplay is the twist in how you can move the blocks around. You can tilt the screen and the blocks will fall into position, meaning you can set up some serious moves. Also shaking the iPhone makes the pieces move into different positions, keeping you from getting stuck in a hairy situation.

After you gain enough experience you can upgrade to different abilities but at this time I have yet to figure out how to do different moves, so the RPG part of the game feels a little incomplete.

Graphically the game looks great. The animations as you blow up the blocks looks stunning and what's even better then the graphics is the music. You feel as if you are in a Lord Of The Rings movies with this stunning sound track. The music helps set the stage so much that you feel as if you are watching an epic movie.

As I said at this time I cannot comment on the full game because I have yet to learn how to do the RPG side of the game. Still the game won't cost you anything and you can download it today from the App Store.
